Preschool Farm Activities (Day 3)

Hi guys! Welcome to our day 3 farm activities. Check out what we did on day 1 and day 2.

Math: 

 Sort by color using farm counters.

 Phonics:

 Beginning sound Clip Activity. Printable is from here and the letter clips are from Michael's.

Sensory Play:

 Fruit and Vegetable play using farm/vegetable and fruit Safari Toob. 

Vocabulary:

Our vocabulary activity was linked to our sensory play. I hid all the fruit and vegetable cards in our sensory tub. He would find a card and match it to the mat. We talked about which ones were fruit/vegetables. The names of the fruit and vegetables. We also talked about which ones mommy liked and which ones he liked. We talked about how fruits and vegetables grow on a farm and what they need to grow (water, sun, soil). I don't know if he understood everything we talked about but, I like to expose him to as much language as I can.

Books:

I purchased these books at a homeschool meeting last year so I don't have a link for them.

Planting Letters

Hi guys! We've been working on letter sound and beginning sounds this week. I came up with a fun activity that goes along with our farm theme.

Material Needed:

1. Printable (found at the end of this post)
2. Playdough
3. Dice

This was an easy low prep activity and he really enjoyed rolling the dice and "planting" his letter sounds. I had him roll the large dice and identify what sound the letter made. He would find it in his "farmer's field" and "plant" that letter using playdough.

Preschool Farm Activities (Day 2)

Hi guys! I wanted to share our day 2 activities for our preschool farm unit. He is still loving all the activities I planned.

Phonics:

Farm Themed Books

Our farm unit has been a lot of fun to plan and my son has been enjoying all the activities and books. I wanted to share some of the books we've been loving.

1. Farm Animals Puzzle book. 

This book is a puzzle book. There are 3 animals (cow, sheep, and rooster). You can read the information to your child while they put the puzzle together. 

2. Maisy's Morning on the Farm

My son loves Maisy books, we have a few in our collection. This book goes through what a typical morning looks like on the farm. Lots of pictures and vocabulary building opportunities. 

3. Poke a Dot 

This book is one of his favorites. Very interactive you can poke the holes and they pop. We sing the song and he counts all the different animals on the page. 

4. Open the Barn Door.

 

This fun lift the flap book was one of his favorites too. There is animal hidden behind each flap and your child can guess by the sound they make. 

5. Old MacDonald Had A Farm

A fun sing along book. We used this with farm puppets and sang the song together. 

6. Big Red Barn

7. Farm 

I love books that introduce vocabulary in a fun way. We loved going over all the different words it was a great vocabulary building book.

Preschool Farm Unit (Day 1)

My son is obsessed with animals especially farm animals (pigs, cows, roosters, etc.). This was the perfect unit for him. For our first day I put together some phonics, math, and sensory activities.

I put together a schedule, I will be using this loosely. If I find things to add I'll do that or if something I've planned doesn't interest him I will take it off. You can click on the image to download our schedule.

Math:

 Roll and cover the corresponding number. I used farm animal counters to cover the numbers. To read more about this activity go here.

Scoop and transfer Activity

Phonics:

For phonics we worked on beginning sound identification using Melissa and Doug farm magnets. I call out the name of the animal/object and he listens for the beginning sound and matches it. 

He's starting to get the hang of identifying the beginning sound. I kept this activity up all day and he went back several times and worked on it independently.

Books:
I'll do a separate post on all the farm themed books we enjoyed but I'll share this one. It was his favorite he walked around with it all day. Open the Barn Door is a lift the flap book with simple text and colorful pictures.

Other Material I used:

1. Magnet board
2. White Tray
