Hurricane Science Demonstration

Our current read aloud this month is 26 Fairmount Avenue by Tomie DePaola. In the first chapter the town is struck by a hurricane.

As we read the first chapter my boys were curious and wanted to know what a hurricane was and why it caused so much damage.

After doing some research we came across this video on youtube. Its very nice and informative, it captivated by 7 year old. He spent the entire day asking all types of questions.

We also read a book on hurricanes which was also very informative. It had lots of information but in bit size chunks.

To drive the information home we did a fun hurricane demonstration. It was really simple and only required a few items.

Check out the video of the boys doing the demonstration.
