Art Around the World: Thailand

Hi guys, today I have another Art Around the World post for you. This craft comes to you from Thailand ;). We created a water color painting of an elephant. Elephants are an important part of Thai culture and the Thai way of life. The elephant has been an integral part of Thailand’s history and culture through both good time and war time. It is a symbol of tradition, history, and royal fortune.

We read The Umbrella Queen a sweet story about a little girl who loves painting elephants, but is discouraged from it because traditionally flowers and leaves are painted on the umbrellas. The king of the village ends up loving her elephant umbrellas and makes her the Umbrella Queen that year.

The boys used oil pastels to decorate their elephants.

I used Art Projects for kids tutorial for this craft.
