Lobster Craft

Hi guys! Today I wanted to share with you a fun craft the boys worked on. During our study Nova Scotia we learned that this province is the lobster capital of Canada. To help the boys remember we worked on a lobster craft and lobster cage. To go along with this craft we read Lobster in my pocket, a cute story about a little girl who rescues a lobster from being eaten.

lobster craft printable is from here.

While we waited for the lobsters to dry we assembled the lobster cages and reread the book.

Material needed:
  1. Cardstock (desired size and color)
  2. Popsicle sticks
  3. glue

bottom of the lobster cage. After making this I realized that I purchased the wrong Popsicle sticks, I should have gotten the longer/larger ones.

We allowed all the parts of our lobster cage to dry over night before assembling the whole thing.

Once the cage was assembled we taped our lobster inside the cage.

The lobster cages turned out so cute and it was perfect for decorating our classroom with.

Bone Review

The boys and I are loving our science curriculum this year. We are using Apologia Exploring Creation with Anatomy and Physiology (read all about our curriculum here). This week we wrapped up the second lesson which focuses on the skeletal system. To help the boys retain all the names of the bones we learned through out this lesson I came up with a fun way to utilize our foam skeleton puzzle.

What You Will Need:
  1. Learning Resource large skeleton puzzle (if you don't have this or don't want to purchase it you can use this printable here).
  2. Labels found at the end of this post. I printed mine on different colored paper just to make it more colorful.
  3. We used our text book to check our answers (if you don't have that you can use this).

after putting the puzzle together the boys went to label as many bones as possible without any help.

Here they are using the text book to make corrections. I think they labeled two bones wrong, which isn't bad at all.

This was a fun hands on way for me to see what they remembered without quizzing them. It also helped them learn to work together, if one didn't know the answer the other did.

Hi guys! Here's what we've been up to this week.

Preschool:

This week we covered all things letter P our main focus was penguins and popcorn. You can read all about it here.

Language Arts:

This week my first grader worked on making predictions before and during a story. We also reviewed writing proper sentences. We read Edward the Emu and Edwina the Emu, if you've never read these two books you are missing out!

My 3rd grader started working on a personal narrative. We focused on brainstorming about small moments in his life (a time he got hurt or sick). We also read lots of mentor text and tried to figure out what small moment the author focuses on. We also practiced turning telling sentences into showing sentences.
