Botany Unit Study

  "وَمِن كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ جَعَلَ فِيهَا زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ"

(Of all fruits (Allah) placed (on the earth) two of a pair). Surah: 13, Verse: 3

Hi guys, we recently completed a mini botany unit during our Quebec study. We used two units from Allamah Education. We used their seed study and plant classification unit. Here are some of the activities we did.

Seeds

We learned all about the parts of a seed, life cycle of a bean plant, seed dispersal, and planted our seed to observe the life cycle.

Plant Cell
We learned all about the plant cell and made a cake model. You can read all about our cell activities. here and here.

Parts of a Plant

We learned about the different parts of a plant (roots, stem, and leaves) and each of their function. We also learned about the needs of a plant (air, water, soil, sun).

My 8 year old made a model of a tree from Lego and labeled all the parts.

We did an experiment to learn how plants absorb water through their roots, stems, and leaves.

Leaves

Photosynthesis

Maple Syrup

We learned all about maple syrup and how it is made. We also learned about the maple tree. We made pancakes to include our study.

Islamic Studies

We read about the story of Adam (as) and used this free worksheet to sequence the story.

We also did the tafseer of Surah Teen. We used the Mini tafseer Series from Ad-Duha Institute and traced the verses using the Juzz 'Ammah tracing book

Lastly, we read about the story of Prophet Zakariya and researched Olive trees.

Parts of a Plant Cell

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you some activities we did to learn all the different parts of a plant cell.

First we learned all the different parts using poster cards and a coloring page.

Here is a quick short video we watched to help us learn the parts of a plant cell.

After my son learned all the different parts, he colored in his worksheet and labeled.

The rest of the week he used this plant cell plushy to review and practice. You can grab yours from Amazon

Our final project was baking a plant cell cake.

You can read all about it by clicking on the image above.

Plant Cell Cake

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you some of the activities we did when we learned all about the plant cell.

We reviewed all the parts of a plant cell and compared it to an animal cell, which we've studied before.
Plant Cell posters are free and you can grab them from here

Plant cell colored and labeled.

This was my son's favorite activity. Labeling the parts of a plant cell using this pillow. I purchased mine from Amazon.

Then my son baked and decorated a plant cell cake.

I used free labels I found here and attached them to toothpicks.

If you don't have a microscope you can watch this video
