Rainbow Fish Letter Recogniton Activity

Hi guys! This week for our preschool activities we focused on the letter F. One of the books I read to my preschooler was Rainbow Fish, he fell in love with the book and walked around with it all week. To go with the book I put together a letter sound practice activity using rainbow shiny stickers from the dollar tree.

Material Needed:

1. Printable ( can be found at the end of this post)
2. Stickers (you can use rainbow colored shiny stickers or just plain stickers)
3. Sharpie ( used to write the letters on the stickers)

 I put all the stickers on the sides of the tray to make it easier for him.

Before he placed the stickers on the fish he would say the sound it made and match it to the corresponding letter. This activity is also a good hand eye coordination practice, getting the stickers inside the circle was a bit of a challenge for him.

Homeschool Weekly Wrap Up

Hi guys! Welcome to our first weekly wrap up post for the new school year. Our first week of school was a lot of fun and filled with a lot of learning.

Preschool:

My preschooler worked on all things letter F and a ocean science theme you can read all about that here.

 

Islamic Studies: 

The boys and I are currently going through this book "The Greatest Stories from the Quran" and journaling through it. I put together a loose schedule and some points of discussion.

Rooted In Reading:

This year I chose Rooted in Reading for my first grader as his language arts programing. It covers writing, reading comprehension, vocabulary and grammar. The first book we read was The Invisible Boy, he loved it. We learned how to make connections in the stories we read so that we could create a picture in our heads and relate to the characters in the story. In grammar we covered complete and incomplete sentences.

Vocabulary Review.

Geography:

We learned some facts about Canada worked on some mapping activities and learned the national anthem of Canada. 

History/Science:

Intro of Anatomy and Physiology and anatomy of a cell.

Narration and Map work.

Math:

Our week was full of activities but both boys are glad to be back into the swing of things. How did your first week go?

Vocabulary:

Touch and fee animal cards from DK Publishing. I love these cards for vocabulary building, each card has a picture with a touch and feel aspect to it. At the back of the card it has questions you can ask your child and extension activities.

First Day of School 2016-2017

Hi guys! I hope you guys are having a wonderful week. I can't believe it's already August! We have officially started school and we couldn't be more excited. We spent our first day eating pancakes, taking pictures, and going over all our new curriculum.

I know some people normal would just add in a few subjects at a time but we start with a full schedule and just play it by ear. If the kids are into it we keep going and if their having a hard time I just take out things.

My eldest doesn't enjoy me taking pictures of him anymore :(. He's growing up! 

Preschool

My preschooler and I have been doing school all of July so he knew what to do. Well I worked with the older boys he kept himself busy with his letter of the week activities.

We plan to journal for Islamic studies this year.

Geography:
After reading some books and learning some new facts about Canada we worked on some mapping activities.

Math:

Our first day was busy but lots of fun. I can't wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for us. Have you started school yet?
