Bulldozer Craft

Hi guys! Today we worked on a craft for our preschool construction theme. You can go here to see what we worked on for day 1.

Material:

1. Bulldozer template 
2. Paint
3. Glue
4. Brown Construction paper
5. oatmeal (to use as the pebbles)

He painted the bulldozer yellow. If your child is up for it you can make the wheels black. 

After the paint dried I cut apart the template and we assembled it onto a brown construction paper. We added glue at the bottom and I let him sprinkle on the pebbles (oatmeal).

Once everything dries shake off the access and your craft is all finished.

Preschool Construction Theme

Hi guys! This week we are working on a construction theme for preschool. We will focus on alphabet matching, beginning sounds, sight words, vocabulary, and number recognition.

Our first activity was a match the beginning sound using a free printable that can be found at the end of this post and rocks with the alphabet written on it. We've done a lot of practice with beginning sounds so he knew what to do. There is a video at the end of this post so you can see this activity in action.

I Spy...Beginning Sound Practice

Hi guys! Today I wanted to share with you a fun beginning sound activity that my son loves doing. He has been really into puzzles lately and one of his favorite puzzles is this alphabet puzzle that has pictures for each letter. I purchased this along time ago, when my middle son was 3 and he is now turning 6 so I don't have a link to share with you.

After putting the puzzle together I set out letters and a magnifying glass to play I Spy with him. I would say "I spy with my little eye something beginning with z" he would search for the object on the puzzle and place the corresponding letter to cover it up. We played this game so many times and he still loves it.

Here he is searching using the magnifying glass.

We had a blast playing I spy and it has become one of his favorite games to play.

Homeschool Weekly Wrap Up

Hi guys! I hope you had a good week, here's what we've been up to.

Science:
This week for science we covered the digestive system. We learned all about what happens to our food and did some fun hands on experiments.

Simulating what happens to your food once it's in the stomach. 

Language Arts:

Both boys are still reading Stuart Little and Charlotte's Web. We did some narration and vocabulary activities. 

Grammar:
This week my 3rd grader covered capitalization rules and my 1st grader worked on proper nouns. We read Saturdays and Teacakes and Memories of a Goldfish as our mentor text.

Math:
For our geometry unit study we are working on 3d shapes. We also worked with money and learned about making change.

The boys have been playing Sum Swamp. When I purchased this game I thought it would be a little more challenging but it's fairly easy. Never the less the boys have played several times and I can save it for the younger ones. 

Preschool:

My little guy hasn't really been into our letter of the week activities lately, that's why I haven't been posting them. We read a lot, worked on A LOT of puzzles, and did some sensory activities. 

He loves adding figurines and practicing beginning sounds using some of our large floor puzzles.

Homeschool Weekly Wrap Up

Hi guys! I hope you had a wonderful homeschool week. Here's what we've been up to. 

Unit Study:

This week we learned all about bays, we identified some on the map and created our vocabulary cards.

Language Arts:

We've been trying something different for grammar lately. Our main curriculum is Rod and Staff for my 3rd grader but he was getting bored with it. We've been using this wonderful mentor sentence lessons from here. We read a picture book and dissect a sentence from the book. We look at what makes it a good sentence, identify the parts of speech, and try to imitate the sentence. So far both boys have been loving it and we've been introduced to new books that we've never read before. 

My first grader has been reviewing nouns using a book also. I threw in a worksheet to give him more practice. 

Math:

This week has been a a week full of many changes for my 3rd grader. We were using Math U See Gemma but he was finding it too easy so we switched to Saxon Math. I am hoping this gives him the challenge he needs. We are just going to work through the beginning lessons pretty quickly and slow down once he reaches the challenging material.

We've also been working on geometry for both boys since Math U See doesn't really cover it. We worked on 2D shapes this week and we will cover 3D Shapes and Fractions next week.

The boys sorted Polygons and Quadrilaterals. 

we made shapes using toothpicks and marshmallows. 

They composed shapes using different shapes. Two trapezoids can make a hexagon. They learned about Vertices, Sides, and Angles. They also learned about different shapes such as a nonagon, decagon, do-decagon, etc. You can find this fun hands on unit here. 

History:

This week for history we finished up chapter 6 and started chapter 7. We did some narration, map work, and hung up our timeline cards that the boys put together.
