Canadian Government Study

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you our mini unit study on the Canadian government. I did this mini unit with my 8 and 6 year old. Here are some of the activities we did.

Here are all the books we used for this unit study. Our read aloud was Make it Fair a story about Nellie McClung.

We learned all about voting and how Nellie McClung fought for women's right to vote.

We watched this short video about voting, the reasons people vote, and the importance of voting.

We had a mock election and everyone in the house got to vote which drink to ban. The options were tea, coke, and hot chocolate.

Hot chocolate was voted out. This really helped them understand why everyone having a say really matters.

We also learned about levels of government and what each one is responsible for. Since we live in Ontario we concentrated on our elected officials from the province of Ontario.

At the end of the unit we baked Canada themed cupcakes.

We watched this video about levels of government.
