  1. Whoever You Are
  2. All the Colors of the Earth
  3. One World, One Day
  4. Little Humans
  5. Me on the Map
  6. Children Just Like Me

We have loved all the books and the boys have read them over and over again. This week is pretty laid back no worksheets or activities involved just some good old reading.

If you are on Instagram make sure to visit the #Giveyourchildtheworld to see more book suggestions and other families participating in the book club. Make sure to check out Simple Homeschool for the reading schedule.

Read Honey...Honey...Lion! and make a lion mask.

 Panama

Art Around the World: Thailand

Hi guys, today I have another Art Around the World post for you. This craft comes to you from Thailand ;). We created a water color painting of an elephant. Elephants are an important part of Thai culture and the Thai way of life. The elephant has been an integral part of Thailand’s history and culture through both good time and war time. It is a symbol of tradition, history, and royal fortune.

We read The Umbrella Queen a sweet story about a little girl who loves painting elephants, but is discouraged from it because traditionally flowers and leaves are painted on the umbrellas. The king of the village ends up loving her elephant umbrellas and makes her the Umbrella Queen that year.

The boys used oil pastels to decorate their elephants.

I used Art Projects for kids tutorial for this craft.

Art Around the World: India (Taj Mahal Bleeding Tissue Paper Art)

Namaste,

Today I am sharing another Art Around the World post. The boys and I are off to India and learning some fascinating facts. We chose the Taj Mahal as our art subject, after reading about how/why it was built we got started on our art project.

I follow the tutorial on Crafty Classroom, they have many wonderful other art projects you should check them out.

It was a perfect project because I already had all the material I needed. Don't you just love it when that happens!

I traced an outline of The Taj Mahal on to the paper and had the boys color it in with white oil pastel, making sure to leave some parts uncolored.

With a little bit of water they started to cover their paper with the bleeding tissue paper. I purchased mine from Amazon, I am not sure if they have it at Michaels.

The idea is that where ever you colored with the oil pastel the tissue paper wont bleed through. We let our paper dry and once it dried we removed all the tissue paper off.

I gave the boys a sharpie to go over their picture and draw in some of the detail. I left that part optional and my younger son chose not to fill in the details. It still turned out really beautiful.

My 7 year old chose to put in details.

We backed it onto black construction paper to make all the colors pop. With or without the details the project turned out really beautiful.

The boys insisted I hang it up above my desk. Now I have some beautiful art work to look at :).

Art Around the World: Japan Cherry Blossom Tree

Kon'nichiwa,

Our Art Around the World has been a hit with the boys, they can't wait to see what we create from the countries we're studying. Today's art project comes to you from Japan. The boys created a Cherry Blossom Tree. We used popcorn for our blossoms, I colored them with a little bit of pink food coloring which they loved.
