Surah Moorsalaat Tafseer- Map of Destroyed Nations

Hi guys, I wanted to share with you the tafseer activities we did while studying Surah Moorsalaat. This activity was a map of destroyed nations focusing verse 16-18.

In these ayaat, Allah reminds us about the destruction of the disbelieving nations that came before us, like Fir'own and the tribes of Thamood, Iram, and 'Aad. All of these nations and tribes denied their messengers and denied Allah. They loved their traditions, cultures, and sinful behavior more than anything else. So, they paid the price in this life and will pay a higher price in the next life. That is because Allah has absolute power and ability to destroy/punish those who break His laws.

Here are some of the resources we used. The big tracing pad is from Hands on Quran.

We also watched this Juzz Tabarak series

Did We not destroy earlier disbelievers?

The boys and I talked about each of the different nations that were destroyed because they rejected their messengers. We used the Prophets of Allah map from Allamah Education.  We mapped each nation and found images online of the ruins. The boys wrote a short narration and drew a picture to represent each nation.

Surah Quraysh

Hi guys, I wanted to share with you some of the activities we did while studying Surah Quraysh. We read from Ad Duha Institue Mini Tafseer book. Using some objects we had around the house we talked about each verse. This surah talks about the blessings that Allah gave to Quraysh.

1. He saved them from Abraha and his army.
2. He made them custodians of the Kaaba, making them respected among the other tribes.
3. He united them as one nation
4. He protected them during their travels to Yemen and Syria.
5. They did not suffer from hunger or thirst. They had an endless supply of Zam Zam water.
6. The Prophet (saw) was from their tribe

Allah tells them to worship Him and Him alone at the end of the Surah. But they took all their blessings for granted and became an enemy of Islam.

My son drew a map of Arabia and we talked about some of the dangers they could have faced during their trade expeditions.

What lessons can we learn from this surah?
1. Remember all that we have is a blessing from Allah
2. To obey and be thankful for all that He has given us.

We also learned the name of Allah Al Mu'izz (The One Who Gives Honor), and the du'a for leaving the house.

Timeline Activity "Al-Khaliq"

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you an activity we did while studying Surah Ikhlas. Surah Ikhlas is all about Allah so the boys and I learned the name Al-Khaliq. We worked on a timeline project.

I printed pictures of the boys showing different ages and wrote down the date on the back of each picture. We drew a timeline on the table and the boys order their pictures.

We read Perfecting the Pillars series from Ad Duha Institute. It has stories for the 99 names of Allah

The boys colored the name Al-Khaliq and then pasted their pictures into their timeline.

This is such a simple and fun activity to reinforce the name of Allah (Al-Khaliq). The children love seeing all the changes and how much they grew up. They love hearing stories about their birth.

Surah Nas Activities

Hi guys, I recently covered the tafseer of Surah Nas with my 4 and 7-year-old. Along with activities based on the Surah we studied the heart.

We learned about the whispers of Shaytaan and how it affects our hearts. You can read all about this lesson here.

We made shields after learning that Allah is the only one who can protect us because he is the Lord of Mankind, The King of Mankind, and The God of Mankind. You can read all about this activity here.

We also learned about the name of Allah Al-Malik. We made crowns and did some Arabic alphabet work.

We talked about what letters are in the word and had both boys practice writing them.

Each Surah we study we always do some vocabulary work. I placed the vocabulary hearts in Kinetic sand. The boys dug them out and matched the the words.

We learned about the circulatory system. I drew a diagram on our table and gave the boys cars.
They drove the car to demonstrate the way blood flows in and out of the heart.

Since the word Naas is repeated often in this Surah, the boys and I read about different Muslim children around the world. We read "Ramadan Around the World" and "Children Just Like Me." We made tacos after reading about a Mexican family.

At the end of our study, we journaled in our Quran Journal.

You can grab this full unit study which has more activities along with printables, book suggestions, and a playlist.

This was a super simple and fun activity for the boys. It helped them solidify the concept.

Surah Nas Activity "Whispers of Shaytaan"

ٱلَّذِى يُوَسْوِسُ فِى صُدُورِ ٱلنَّاسِ

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you an activity we did while studying the tafseer of Surah Nas. I did this activity with my 4 and 7-year-old.

In Surah Nas Allah is teaching us how to protect ourselves from the whispers of Shaytaan and his helpers. Our heart is the most important organ in our body. We must protect it from the infection of Shaytaan. The boys colored their hearts a nice healthy red free from diseases. You can grab the heart coloring page from here.

We read these two books. We talked about some of the ways we can protect ourselves from his whispers.

Then we traced the boy's body on a large piece of butcher paper.

The boys placed their hearts inside their bodies and decorated their person. Then we added all the ways we can protect our hearts and placed them inside the body and around the heart.

We also watched this wonderful video together.

Suratul Falaq

Allah created you. Allah loves you. Allah has power over everything. Allah gave us Surah al Falaq to give every one of us a way to ask Allah to protect us from scary things. When you recite Surah al Falaq, you ask Allah to protect you from things that can hurt or scare you.

In Suratul Falaq Allah mentions four things we must seek his protection from. The boys painted a night sky and decorated it with stars. After everything was dry they add the four things we seek protection from in Surah Falaq.

We learned all about what causes day and night. We used a Styrofoam ball, a dowel, and a flashlight. I explained to my 4-year-old that the Earth spins. I allowed him to play with the Earth and spin it around. We marked where we live with a pin. This is us on Earth. The flashlight is for the sun. We need the sun to keep us warm and give us light. As the Earth spins one side always faces the sun. The side facing the sun is daytime. The side facing away from the sun its nighttime. After the demonstration, we did a day and night sort and practiced the du'a before/after sleep.

Vocabulary practice

Letter N is for Night

We baked Starry Night cookies at the end of our study.

You can grab this activity packet and enjoy teaching your child about Suratul-Falaq.

Suratul-Faatiha

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you a math lesson we did while we were studying Surah Faatiha.
Surah Faatiha is called Sab'a Ma-thaa-neey (Seven Oft Repeated Verses). We repeat Surah Faatiha at least 17 times a day in the five daily prayers.

First, we talked about how many daily prayers we as Muslims must pray. We used our Learning Roots Salah cards. Then, we talked about how many rak'at each prayer has. My 4 year used linking blocks to build a tower for each prayer.

Each child made their own Montessori booklet. We used crayons and drew how the sky looks during each prayer. Then, the boys add the number rak'at using this free printable.

My 7-year-old added all the numbers together. To add more of a challenge have your child add the Sunnah Prayers for each Salah.
