Suratul-Faatiha

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you a math lesson we did while we were studying Surah Faatiha.
Surah Faatiha is called Sab'a Ma-thaa-neey (Seven Oft Repeated Verses). We repeat Surah Faatiha at least 17 times a day in the five daily prayers.

First, we talked about how many daily prayers we as Muslims must pray. We used our Learning Roots Salah cards. Then, we talked about how many rak'at each prayer has. My 4 year used linking blocks to build a tower for each prayer.

Each child made their own Montessori booklet. We used crayons and drew how the sky looks during each prayer. Then, the boys add the number rak'at using this free printable.

My 7-year-old added all the numbers together. To add more of a challenge have your child add the Sunnah Prayers for each Salah.

Gallon Man - Liquid Measurement

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you a fun hands on activity we did during our botany unit. We read in one of our books that it takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of maple syrup, so this led to a liquid measurements lesson.

First we started off by collecting containers around the house that corresponded to each measurement (gallon, quart, pint, and cup). Next we ordered them from the largest to the smallest. Finally, we talked about the equivalent measurement (how many quarts in a gallon, how many pints in a quart, etc.)

Material

1. Construction Paper
2. Scissors
3. Brass Fasteners

After the boys understood the concept we assembled our gallon man.

1 Gallon= 4 quarts
1 Quart = 2 pints
1 Pint = 2 cups

Roll and Cover Farm

Hi guys! Today I wanted to share with you a little farm themed math activity I put together for my son. He loves all things animal related.

Material You Will Need:
  1. Farm Printable (at the end of this post)
  2. Dice template
  3. Something to cover the numbers (I used farm animal counters)
He didn't want to roll the dice at first so I rolled it for him. He would call out the number and place a farm counter on the corresponding number on the mat.

Parking Garage Number Activity

Hi guys! Today I wanted to share with you a fun easy activity that your toddler/preschooler will love. We've been working on all things letter C around here and my little guy is obsessed with cars. To do this activity what you will need is;
  1. large board or paper
  2. cars
  3. dot stickers to write the numbers on
  4. marker
I drew out my parking garage on a foam project board that I had lying around and used dot stickers to write the numbers 1-10 and adhered them to the cars. It's super simple and he played with it for hours. The objective of the activity is for your child to match the number on the car to the number in the parking space.

I hope you enjoy this fun, easy to prep activity.

Bug Color Sorting Activity

Hi guys! I wanted to share with you a fun and low prep activity that your toddler/preschooler will love.

Material you will need:
  1. Muffin Tin (I got mine from the dollar store)
  2. Bug counters
  3. construction paper in varies colors
  4. Magnets
  5. Tweezers
I used my circle puncher to punch out 6 circles (yellow, orange, red, purple and green). I put a piece of magnet on the back of each circle so that the paper does not move around.

I set out the activity and he went to work sorting each color into its place. He played with this activity all week long.

I added the tweezers to give him more fine motor practice. You can just have your child sort it with their fingers.

I love low prep activities! :) What's your favorite low prep activity to do with your kids.

6 Dice Activities for Preschoolers

Sometimes as adults, we tend to over think teaching math to preschoolers. But, mathematical thinking and basic math concepts can be taught using fun hands on activities. Today I wanted to share with you 6 dice games that you can play with your preschooler;

1. Number Hunt:

This is a fun game to help your preschooler with number recognition. What you need to play this game is-dice, magnetic numbers, and a container to place the numbers in. Have your child roll the dice, count the number of dots and find the corresponding number on the tray and put it in the cup. It's easy and really fun :).

2. Roll and Graph

This next dice game is an introduction to graphing. What you need to play this game is graphing printable and dice. Have your child roll the dice, count the number and put a tally mark on the corresponding number. Keep playing till all the spaces are filled up.

3. Roll and Cover:

This next game is a fun roll and cover activity. Draw a picture of something it can be a ball, robot, tree or just write the numbers all over the page. Have your child roll the dice and cover the corresponding number. Use different colors to make it more fun.

4. Roll and Tally

This next game is an introduction to tally marks. If you have an older preschooler and your looking for more of a challenging activity give this one a try. What you will need-a dice of course and some Popsicle sticks. At first you might want to demonstrate for your child and once they get the hang of it they can take over. Have your child roll the dice, count and make that many tally marks.

5. "Less than, greater than"

This is another game for those older preschoolers that need more of a challenge. What you will need-two dice and less than, greater than symbols. Have your child roll the two dice, they can put the number in any order. Then have them decided whether the number is greater/less than or equal.

6. Roll and Squish:

This last game involves play dough. What preschooler doesn't love play dough? Roll small balls out of the play dough, have your child roll the dice and squish that many play dough balls. This one is a lot of fun.

Here's a round up of all the games.

That's it! I hope you and your preschooler enjoy these games. Unit next time :).
