British Columbia Study

Hi guys, I wanted to share our study of British Columbia. In my opinion one of the most beautiful provinces. Here are some activities we did. We used The Great Canadian Adventure as our primary resources.

At the beginning of the week I set up our work shelves with books, projects, and pintables to get us in the mood to start our study.

After learning all about the Rocky Mountains we baked a sugar cookie in the shape of British Columbia. We used chocolate chips for the mountains and blue icing for the two major rivers.

We learned about the three types of volcanoes (shield, cone, stratovolcano). We of course used baking soda and vinegar to make a volcano. We also tied in some Arabic watching Farashaty video on volcanoes.

We learned all about salmon and tied our history study of the Pacific Northwest Natives.

We did a flower dissection and learned all about The Great Bear Rainforest.

We also read a lot of books and watched videos all about British Columbia. I shared a lot on our Instagram page.

I hope you enjoyed seeing all the different activities. If you enjoyed this post check out our other post all about Nova Scotia.

Layers of The Earth Felt

We are on to our next planet "Earth". To help the kids memorize the layers of the Earth I made them a felt layers of the Earth puzzle. I thought this would be more fun than a worksheet.

I used a sparkly black felt as the base to represent "space".

I printed some Montessori 3 part cards to use along with this activity.

Sun Prints

Today the boys and I took advantage of the beautiful warm weather and made some sun prints. I had originally bought this and was waiting to use it with our Sun lesson, but the weather was never warm enough.

The boys had a lot of fun making the sun prints. I saved a few sheets to do this again in the spring when we have more pretty things to print.

I purchased this kit from amazon.

We choose our items to print. As you can see we didn't have many natural items because its winter here. But we worked with what we had. We also printed some objects we found around the house.

It took about a a minute or two for the print to show up.

We rinsed the prints in water and waited for them to dry.

They turned out nice, but I can't wait to try this in the spring with all the lovely flowers.
