Snake Unit Study

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you our snake mini unit. This unit came about after finding a large snake skin in our backyard and a small snake in our garage. The kids were pretty excited to do a unit study on snakes so I agreed. Here are some of the things we did.

We first reviewed the difference and similarities between reptiles and mammals.

We used our DIY Venn diagram felt. My younger son just sorted animal figurines.

Next we learned all about the snake anatomy. My 3rd grader wrote a paragraph about how snakes use their body for survival.

He also labeled the parts of a snake in his notebook

We also learned all about the life cycle of a snake

You can find the life cycle figurines on Amazon.

We also made a diorama using a kit from Amazon.

Here are all the books we read during this unit study.

Animals in Canada

Along with learning about all the provinces and territories of Canada we are also learning about animals in Canada. Here are some of the animals we learned about.

We learned about the anatomy of a goose using our stuffed plushy and diy labels.

We also learned about the life cycle of a goose. We read some wonderful books and watched YouTube videos.

Next we learned about Beavers and how they are a Canadian symbol. We read this simple book and played with some beaver figurines.

We also built a beaver dam as our science extension.

I gave the kids different materials to build a beaver dam with and they were able to test how well their dam held water.

The next animal we learned about was the Pacific Salmon.
