Cave Unit Study

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you all the activities we've been doing for our cave unit. This was a short mini unit about a week long. Here are some of the activities we did.

We learned about different types of caves using three part cards.
You can grab these cards from my TPT store

We also learned about how limestone reacts to acid using vinegar.

We also made a cave in a cup after learning how caves are formed. You can read all about this science demonstration here.

One of my sons favorite experiments was making rock candy. You can read all about how we made it here.

Cave anatomy using this felt cave from Montessori By Mommy Cave Unit.

Community Helpers Arabic Activities

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you our community helpers Arabic themed activities. For this unit study we used Journey with Inas Arabic program. You can still purchase the online program. She has crafts, stories, printables, and songs. I can't recommend Inas's programs enough. It has brought a love of Arabic to our home. Here are some of the activities we did at home.

To begin our dive into this wonderful program I painted peg dolls for the boys. I brought one out for each week we studied a new helper.

We learned about farmers using stories, songs, and planting together.

Next we learned about police officers.

We also got to dress up and arrest bad guys.

With each community helper we learned about we also learned about what vehicles they drive.

When we learned about chiefs we got to make banana bread and follow along with Inas in Fusha. I appreciated all the rich vocabulary she used and my boys were learning without filling in worksheets.

More dressing up.

Our favorite activity was our neighborhood walk. Inas provided us with a printable to find different buildings and community helpers in our own town. This was so much fun.

This is just some of the activities we did during our community helper theme. Please check out Inas's website for more Arabic classes.

We also played with our town mat a lot.

South America Study

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you our mini South America study. Here are some of the things we did during this study.

We started with a sewing project. Continent mini pillow.

Learned about the different biomes of South America. We used dry beans to represent each biome.

Next we learned all about Llamas when we studied about the country of Peru.

We made Llamas using pipe cleaners and wool felt. You can get details for this project from Little World Wanderers free Peru study.

We also baked sweet bread when we studied about the country of Argentina

We also made a diy pin it map to practice the country names, capitals, and flags using a cork board.

This was a good opportunity for us to learn some Spanish and review old vocabulary words. In this activity we were learning opposites.

We learned all about Peruvian weaving.

We also learned about the rainforest, toucans, read lots of books, watched videos, and did map activities.

Hajj Unit Study

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you about our Hajj unit study. We learned the Talbiyah, read lots of books, watched videos, and baked a kaaba cake.

First, We reviewed the pillars of Islam using these puzzles and read some books.

We made Hajj peg dolls and dressed them up in Ihram

We also made Kaaba out of Lego

As we learned about the Hajj process we made a diorama showing each step.

Next we did some notebooking pages after learning all about the story Ibrahim (AS).

To conclude our Hajj study we baked a Kaaba cake.

Homeschooling With Food

Hi guys, today I wanted to share with you some ways you can include food in your homeschool. We love unit study based learning and at the end of our units we like to cook something to conclude our study. Most of the time its something sweet because I have some picky eaters. Here are some of the things we've cooked or baked during our unit studies.

After our Hajj unit study we baked a Kaaba cake.

Layers of the Earth cupcakes. This was really fun and helped my son learn all the different layers. At the center of each cupcake we put a piece of chocolate.

After we studied about some of the landforms in British Columbia we decided to bake a cookie in the shape of BC. We added chocolate chips for the Rocky Mountains and the Coastal Mountains. We also used blue icing for the two major rivers.

After our mini government unit we baked Canada themed cupcakes. We topped each cupcake with a Canada flag.

Edible model of the heart. We used graham crackers, marshmallows, and icing.

After our unit study about Prophet Musa (AS) we made pizza boat snacks.

Plant Cell Cake

After learning about the periodic table of elements we made graham cracker cookies with icing to represent his favorite elements.

I hope you enjoyed reading about all our food projects. Do you include food in your unit studies?
